Leaders from global business, technology, sports, healthcare, investment, academia, culture, and international organizations concluded today the first edition of the “Borgo Dialogues” with a shared call to build systems capable of safeguarding human dignity, strengthening the common good, and ensuring a sustainable future for tomorrow’s generations.

Held from June 17 to 19 at Borgo Laudato Si’ in the Pontifical Gardens of Castel Gandolfo, the Dialogues were promoted by the Laudato si’ Center for Higher Education, in collaboration with the University of Notre Dame, Deloitte Switzerland, and Handshake Strategies.

On the final day, participants were received in an audience by Pope Leo XIV, who described the initiative as “a first step in a process” aimed at renewing and reimagining moral leadership in a fragmented world that is tamped to disconnect from its historical roots. He called for moving beyond fragmented approaches to global challenges and for building a “civilization of love,” in which love incarnated in reality becomes the guiding principle of economic, political, and cultural life.

The Holy Father also warned against the temptation of the “Tower of Babel,” a symbol of profit idolatry at the expense of the most vulnerable and the risk of dehumanization, and instead called for the building of the “New Jerusalem” as a horizon of fraternity and justice. He affirmed that every generation inherits the task of shaping its own time so that the dignity of every person is protected, justice is promoted, and fraternity becomes possible, while reiterating the need for courageous leadership rooted in uplifting human dignity and is especially attentive to the most vulnerable.

Presenting the initiative, Cardinal Fabio Baggio, Director General of the Laudato si’ Center for Higher Education, emphasized that the “ the “Borgo Dialogues” “has be born to create a a space for reflection on major themes already raised by the encyclicals Laudato Si’, Fratelli Tutti, and Magnifica Humanitas, at the center of today’s challenges and the sustainability of the future. Participants come from diverse perspectives and gather not only to dialogue but also to challenge one another, imagining a future that is not the Babel of confusion and conflict, but a civilization of love”.

In this context, JR Kerr, CEO of Handshake Strategies, stated that “What happened here was more than dialogue: it was formation,” underscoring how leaders were able to step outside the noise of the world to confront the real decisions shaping institutions and to ask the fundamental question of what is being built and who will inherit it.

Father Dan Groody of University of Notre Dame further emphasized that “in a time of polarization, the Borgo Dialogues demonstrate what is possible when people come together for authentic conversations about what truly matters, highlighting that the strength of shared dialogue lies in listening deeply to the dynamics of nature, the challenges of the world, and the desires of the human heart”.

A Call to Action for the Common Good

Participants agreed on a Call to Action committing to design technologies and systems that recognize the inherent dignity of every person. The initiative calls on leaders to recognize the inherent dignity of every person and to evaluate decisions according to their impact on the common good and the protection of the most vulnerable. It encourages bold decision-making in fields such as artificial intelligence, healthcare, sport, investment, and governance that can be justified not only today but also to future generations.

To support this vision, the initiative promotes a five-point leadership framework inspired by Magnifica Humanitas. The framework is grounded in five core principles: human dignity, equitable distribution, attention to vulnerability, ecological responsibility, and trust.

As a result of the dialogues, four long-term initiatives will be launched:
– Hero Project;
– AI for the Common Good;
– Dignity Index;
– Courage Project.

These initiatives reflect the shared conviction that leadership must be exercised in community and not as an individual expression.

At the conclusion of the proceedings, participants emphasized that the journey must continue, evolving into a permanent global platform for ethical leadership, institutional innovation, and the advancement of the common good.
