Archbishop of Chicago Card. Cupich, with Bishop Symeonides of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America at Borgo Laudato si’.
As part of their official visits to Italy, His Eminence Cardinal Blase Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago, and Bishop Metropolitan Nathanael Symeonides of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America also visited Borgo Laudato si’.
The visit was part of a broader itinerary dedicated to dialogue between Churches and the promotion of a culture of care for our common home.
Welcomed by Don Manuel Dorantes, Managing Director of the Laudato si’ Advanced Training Center, the two ecclesial representatives had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the Borgo Laudato si’ project, conceived as a laboratory for education in integral ecology, environmental sustainability, and the circular economy.
The visit also served as a moment of reflection on the value of collaboration between Christian traditions in the stewardship of Creation, a theme central both to the Catholic Magisterium and to the spirituality of the Orthodox Churches.
The visit concluded with a significant moment at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, where the two religious leaders laid flowers from the gardens of Borgo Laudato si’ on the tomb of Pope Francis, a symbol of gratitude and hope.
The visit confirmed Borgo Laudato si’ as a place of encounter, dialogue, and reflection, where spirituality, education, and concrete initiatives for the care of the environment and human dignity come together in a project of integral ecology.
