“Integral Ecology in the Life of the Family”: a new Vatican document on caring for creation and all who inhabit it.

The document “Integral Ecology in the Life of the Family” has been published by the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life. It is intended to foster, within the family context, care for creation and for human life.

The volume is the result of a joint effort by the two bodies of the Holy See, with contributions from theologians, consultants, and married couples.

The text gathers the appeals of the Popes to listen to the cry of the Earth and of the poor, translating them into concrete guidance inspired by Amoris Laetitia and Laudato si’.

In the introduction, the Prefects emphasize the central role of families in transmitting the values of care, solidarity, and the protection of life.

Structured in two parts, the document first offers a theoretical framework based on the recent Magisterium, followed by seven thematic chapters linked to the goals of Laudato si’, including sustainable lifestyles, ecological economics, education, and family spirituality. Each section includes reflections, questions, and practical actions.

Although primarily addressed to families, the text is proposed as a guide for all, encouraging a cultural shift toward a more just and sustainable world. The document is available online free of charge in five languages.
